Written Quotes for Commercial Work

Sunday, March 20th, 2011
by Wayne Tracy
wayneOnce you’ve decided on what you’re going to quote a customer for a commercial project, the next step is to contact the customer with your quote. I’ve written many times about maintaining a professional image while on a job site, in your vehicle, or in your office, this is equally important.

Anything you can do to make yourself look more professional than your competitor can only improve your chances of landing that big (or small) commercial job. It doesn’t matter if you’re a one man shop or have multiple trucks on the road; professionalism should always be first on your mind.

What would you want to receive; a phone call with a quoted amount or a phone call and a professionally prepared written quote for work you wanted done? I seldom call a commercial customer with a quote. I’ll always attempt to make an appointment to hand deliver and explain the quote to the customer.

If you simply call, fax or e-mail you do not get the chance to overcome any objections the customer may have and not express to you. Not to mention this is just another step in setting yourself aside from your competitors.

The following is a list of items you want to include in your quote:

  • Price
  • Description of all work to be performed
  • Location of work – be sure if you are only doing part of a building that you fully describe the areas the work is to be performed in.
  • The number of days you expect the job to take.
  • Details on your companies insurance (Liability, Auto & Workers Comp). Some commercial companies may have special requirements over and above you current coverage – these additional costs should be passed on.
  • Add on items (scissor lifts, forklifts, or other special equipment) and their costs.
  • The hours of the day the work will be performed.
  • A time limit on the quote (normally 30 days is best).

This is a representative list of what will normally be required. If there are any other requirements, be sure they are listed also. On some complex jobs, I’ve had quotes with multiple pages. Just be sure you cover everything here so you and your customer have no surprises or unexpected costs.

What You Can Do With the Online Ordering System

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
by Melanie Sands
melanieMany of you are currently using our website to place your filter orders. If you are not, please get in touch with us so we can make sure you are set up and help you begin. Did you know that you can order other items from this same area? We have our chemicals, brochures and accessories available too; just click on the picture and it will take you to the different options.

We also wanted to make sure you are aware of the other features that are available here. When you login you can go to My Account. From here you can view your order history, which is where you will see the orders you have placed and get tracking numbers for the orders that have shipped. Or you can choose to go to Company Information. This is where you will update any changes you might have such as address, email, phone number, etc… This updates our entire system so we ask that you make sure the information we have is correct.

We also have a feature called My Locations. This is for those companies that have multiple locations but everything is billed under one account. If you fall into this category you are able to go here and set-up all of your locations with their own email and password so they can log in and place their own orders, possibly saving you time. All the orders are sent to the main account in our system and the billing is handled normally.

We hope you take a moment to familiarize yourself with our system and please give us a call if you ever have any questions or need help navigating it. We appreciate our customers input so if you have any suggestions on how to improve this site please call or email us – we do look at all of them.

Summary of the NADCA Annual Meeting and Expo in Las Vegas

Thursday, March 10th, 2011
by Mary Dziak
maryWe recently attended the NADCA Annual Meeting and Expo held here in Las Vegas. I didn’t have to travel far to attend the show. We had our booth in the exhibit hall and it was great to see our old friends again that we only get to see during these shows.

One of the main topics during the general session was the recent Dateline NBC show about duct cleaners that either use “bait and switch” techniques with their advertising and/or the duct cleaners that just didn’t do what they said they were doing.

This type of story can be very beneficial to the companies that are doing quality work at a quality price. A price that is fair for both the customer and the cleaner leads to repeat and referral business. Isn’t that what we all strive for?

If you haven’t had a chance to view the story from Dateline, it can be found on the NADCA website. Let’s promote our industry with quality work and quality advertising.

Update on Green Air Direct

Saturday, March 5th, 2011
by Richard Papaleo, President
Dick PapaleoI have decided to use this newsletter to update you on the status of the lawsuit of Air Care vs Green Air Direct Inc.

On February 10, 2011 the United States District Court District Of Nevada ordered a Default Judgment against Green Air Direct Inc. Case No. 2:10-ev-01241-JCM-RJJ (See Judgment).

Green Air Direct Inc. has and is willfully and improperly using Air Care’s intellectual property and has and is profiting from Air Care’s goodwill for which the court has issued a corresponding judgment against Green Air Direct Inc.

In addition to the improper use of our intellectual property, Green Air Direct Inc advertises their electrostatic filters as antimicrobial and specification as related to performance that are not true. Air Care sent a sample of their filter for testing by a certified ASHRE testing laboratory and their product did not perform to their advertised specifications (See report).

In addition we sent another sample for analytical and antimicrobial testing and the results show that the sample was not treated with antimicrobial materials as advertised. (See report)

We intend to report these facts to the FTC and EPA for their review. These are serious violations and intentionally misleading for any consumer who purchased their product.

Now that you know the facts you may become equally responsible for selling these products to the consumer if a recall was to be directed by any of the above agencies.

As I have stated in the past, Air Care welcomes competition – that is the American way and it only make us better at what we do. But misleading claims and improper use of Air Care’s intellectual property is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

I hope you understand our concern and if you have questions regarding this issue please contact us. Until next month – keep up the great work.
